WFW advises Alpiq on acquisition of majority stake in Harmony Energy 23 July 2026

Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) advised Alpiq AG (“Alpiq”) on its acquisition of a 90% stake in BESS developer and operator Harmony Energy Limited (“Harmony Energy”).

The acquisition aligns with Alpiq’s flexibility strategy and strengthens both its asset base and commercial capabilities by expanding its presence across the BESS value chain. The acquisition adds approximately 400 MW of assets under construction to Alpiq’s existing BESS footprint in Europe, including a UK project expected to be connected to the grid as early as Q3 2026, as well as an important project pipeline. Together, these assets and the pipeline put Alpiq on track to build and operate a multi-gigawatt BESS portfolio across Europe over the coming years.

Following completion of the transaction, Harmony Energy will continue to operate as an independent company under its own brand, retaining its team, entrepreneurial culture and operating model.

Alpiq is a leading Swiss energy services provider and electricity producer that operates throughout Europe. It offers its customers comprehensive and efficient services in the fields of energy generation and marketing as well as energy optimisation.

Founded in the UK in 2010, Harmony Energy is one of Europe’s leading developers, owners and operators of utility-scale BESS projects, strengthening grid flexibility and resilience, enhancing energy security and supporting homegrown energy systems across the continent.

In London, Emmanuel was supported by Partner Sarah Williamson, Senior Associates Florence Childs and Sebastian Lello and Associate Dominic Mbanu. WFW has been at the forefront of advising on energy storage projects and transactions across Europe, and we were delighted to support Alpiq on a deal that reflects the continued evolution of the market”.
