Marcus is a Partner in the Corporate Group.
Marcus specialises in M&A, joint ventures and project development transactions, with a focus on the energy and infrastructure sectors as well as M&A transactions involving private equity investors.
Recent transactional highlights include advising on the acquisition, financing and project development of onshore and offshore wind farms, photovoltaic plants and other renewable energy projects in Germany and Europe as well as on the establishment of joint ventures and M&A transactions regarding energy and infrastructure projects and businesses. Further, Marcus advises on corporate M&A transactions involving private equity investors, including acquisitions by portfolio companies in connection with “buy and build” structures.
Marcus’ clients include financial investors, utilities and other strategic investors, banks and project developers.
The German legal directory JUVE 2024/2025 describes Marcus as “very solution-orientated and pragmatic“. He was also recently praised in Legal500 EMEA 2024: “Marcus Bechtel is characterised – of course in addition to his excellent expertise – by his calm and mediating manner. - Advising Transport Holding Germany B.V., a subsidiary of state-owned Dutch railway company N.V. Nederlandse Spoorwegen, on the sale of its German Abellio rail services operations to BeNEX GmbH.
- Advising Saudi Arabia’s Zahid Group on its acquisition of a 50% stake in Greencells Group and the formation of a joint venture with its current owners.
- Advising Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners on its €384m investment and related joint venture in the offshore grid connection “DolWin3”, transmitting wind energy from the North Sea to German customers.
- Advising EWE AG on all legal and tax matters for the joint venture development of the German offshore wind farm Borkum West II – 2nd phase.
- Advising the shareholders of Germany’s Lucht Probst Associates Group on its acquisition by private equity investor Motive Partners.

Er ist spezialisiert auf M&A-Transaktionen, Joint Ventures sowie Projektentwicklungen, insbesondere in den Bereichen Energie, Infrastruktur sowie M&A-Transaktionen unter Beteiligung von Private-Equity-Investoren.
In der jüngeren Vergangenheit abgeschlossene Transaktionen umfassen die Beratung bei der Akquisition, Finanzierung und Projektentwicklung von Onshore- und Offshore-Windparks, Photovoltaik-Anlagen und anderen erneuerbaren Energie-Projekten in Deutschland und Europa sowie bei Joint Ventures und M&A-Transaktionen im Zusammenhang mit Energie- und Infrastrukturprojekten und Unternehmen. Des Weiteren berät Dr. Marcus Bechtel bei M&A-Transaktionen unter Beteiligung von Private-Equity-Investoren, einschließlich Akquisitionen von Portfoliounternehmen im Zusammenhang mit “Buy and Build”-Strukturen.
Zu seinen Mandanten zählen Finanzinvestoren, Energieversorgungsunternehmen und andere strategische Investoren, Banken und Projektentwickler.

- Beratung der Zahid-Gruppe in Saudi-Arabien beim Erwerb einer 50-prozentigen Beteiligung an der Greencells-Gruppe und bei der Gründung eines Joint Ventures mit den derzeitigen Eigentümern.
- Beratung von Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners bei einer Investition über EUR 384 Millionen in die neue Offshore-Netzanbindung DolWin3, die Windenergie von der Nordsee an deutsche Stromabnehmer liefert.
- Beratung der EWE AG in allen rechtlichen und steuerlichen Fragen im Zusammenhang mit einem Joint Venture bei derEntwicklung des deutschen Offshore-Windparks Borkum West II (2. Phase).
- Beratung der Aktionäre der Lucht Probst Associates Gruppe bei der Übernahme durch den Private-Equity-Investor Motive Partners.
