Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) has expanded its Munich practice with the arrival of corporate and projects expert Dr Christian Bauer who joins the firm as a Partner today. Prior to joining WFW, he was Counsel at Norton Rose Fulbright in the same city.

With a strong focus on the energy and infrastructure sector, Christian has extensive experience advising on both domestic and cross-border construction and project agreements, including structuring subcontractor agreements and procurement advice for public entities. Complex PPP/PFI project agreements, notably for road construction, are an area of particular expertise.

Christian also has a wealth of experience advising on energy-related projects including grid connections and tariffs, as well as battery and other types of energy storage and power-to-gas projects. He is especially well known for his focus on deep geothermal energy projects, including drilling and power plant construction contracts, and has been actively involved advising project developers, suppliers, investors and external lenders on numerous large—scale projects of this type recently carried out in Germany.

Marcus Bechtel, Head of WFW’s German offices, commented: “His impressive track record advising on complex energy and infrastructure projects, especially as regarding renewables in general and geothermal in particular, make Christian the ideal addition to our German practice and the offering to our clients in our Munich office. Following on from the arrival of regulatory experts Felix Siebler in Munich in July 2018 and Maximilian Boemke in Hamburg in January 2019, Christian’s joining is a clear demonstration of the firm’s commitment to expanding our energy and infrastructure offering both in Germany and worldwide”.

Christian added: “I’m very excited to have joined WFW. With its strong sector focus on energy and infrastructure, especially in the renewables and transport sectors, the firm represents the perfect platform from which I can expand and strengthen the service I offer my clients. I look forward to working with my new colleagues both national and internationally”.
