Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) advised shipping company MPC Container Ships ASA (“MPCC”) on the acquisition of four 7,000 TEU container vessels for a total consideration of US$340m.
The four eco-conventional 7,000 TEU vessels, built between 2023 and 2024, are acquired from an independent third party. Each vessel is secured under a three-year time charter with one of the world’s five leading container shipping companies. Delivery is expected in October/November 2026, subject to successful inspection and customary closing conditions.
With this acquisition, MPCC expands its fleet to include an additional vessel size segment whilst continuing its ongoing modernisation strategy towards a younger, more efficient and future-proof fleet.
Oslo-based MPCC is a leading container ship owner with a focus on small to medium-sized vessels. It primarily owns and operates a portfolio of container ships serving regional trade routes under long-term charter agreements.
The WFW Germany Maritime team that advised MPCC was led by Hamburg Corporate Maritime Partner Dr Christian Finnern, supported by Associates Maximilian Hennig and Bjarne Ruthke.
Christian commented: “Demand for modern, efficiently operated container vessels remains strong. This transaction demonstrates how targeted transactions help develop fleets strategically whilst combining long-term charter coverage with modern tonnage. We are delighted to support MPCC on this acquisition”.
