WFW advises Sonnedix on acquisition of its first standalone Italian BESS portfolio 23 July 2026

Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) advised Sonnedix on the acquisition of its first standalone BESS portfolio in Italy, with a total capacity of 260 MW, from Sphera Energy.

The portfolio comprises two adjacent BESS projects, of 16 MW and 100 MW respectively, located in the municipality of Tuscania in Lazio.

This acquisition builds on Sonnedix’s existing Italian footprint and reflects its ongoing commitment to the country’s energy transition.

Sonnedix is a global renewable energy company delivering 100% clean electricity directly to its customers through a diversified portfolio of solar, wind and storage assets. The company currently has a total portfolio capacity of 11 GW, including more than 1 GW under construction, 4.8 GW in operation and a development pipeline of 5 GW.

Sphera Energy is a project development company based in Italy and fully dedicated to the development of utility-scale battery energy storage projects, with the mission to accelerate the decarbonisation of the national electricity grid.

The WFW Italy Energy team that advised Sonnedix was led by Partner Tiziana Manenti, working closely with Partner Luca Sfrecola. They were supported by Senior Associate Giovanni Benedetto, Associate Francesca Romana Bazzani and Trainee Ying Hong Wang on corporate matters and by Senior Associate Antimo Rocco Nersita and Associate Marco Iannotti on administrative and regulatory matters.
