The state-of-the-art vessels, which are scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2028.
The deal includes disposing of the 2,800 TEU container ships Cimbria and Cardonia.
The four vessels will be constructed at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. and will be completed in sequence during 2027.
The vessels will be equipped with a dual-fuel engine setup which enables operation on methanol as well as conventional MGO.
The vessels, which will be on seven-year long term charters to Israeli line operator Zim following delivery scheduled in early 2024, represent MPCC’s first ever newbuild order.
The 5,500 TEU vessels will have a new eco-friendly design allowing for a 40% reduction in fuel consumption compared to the existing fleet and are ready for conversion to carbon-neutral operations based on green methanol.
