Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) advised global energy investor Samos Energy (“Samos”) on its acquisition of the Suksan Salamander floating storage and offloading unit (FSO) from Altera Infrastructure Group.
As part of the transaction, Samos partnered with FPSO Ventures, a leading specialist in the operation and maintenance of floating production units. Following the successful completion and delivery of the Suksan Salamander, FPSO Ventures has assumed responsibility for the ongoing operations and maintenance of the unit, which continues to serve the Bualuang oil field offshore Thailand operated by Medco Energi Thailand.
The acquisition represents another step forward in Samos’ strategy to expand its portfolio of high‑quality offshore production assets. It adds to the group’s existing fleet of three floating production units in Southeast Asia acquired in 2023. The partnership with FPSO Ventures underscores Samos’ commitment to operational continuity, safety and long‑term reliability for Medco Energi Thailand and the Bualuang oil field. The Suksan Salamander plays a critical role in production from the field, providing offshore storage and offloading capacity to support these stable operations.
The WFW Singapore team that advised Samos was led by Partner Andrew Nimmo, supported by Partner and WFW Oil & Gas Lead Merrick White and Associates Andy Wilson and Clara Davies.
Andrew commented: “We are very glad to have supported Samos on this important project and to have contributed to the successful execution of the transaction, which further strengthens its presence in Southeast Asia and demonstrates the continuing appetite across the region for the right offshore energy assets. We are working on multiple floating production and storage asset deals in parallel at present and expect this to continue given current market conditions and our unique offering of unified oil & gas and maritime expertise”.
