Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) has advised Krankenhaus St. Josef Schweinfurt (“Hospital St Josef”) on the preparation and execution of an EU-wide tendering procedure for general planning services related to a €118m construction contract to modernise and enhance the hospital’s facilities. The modernisation and expansion is intended to ensure high-quality health care. A reorganisation of the individual clinical functional areas as well as the logistical processes is to be carried out, taking into account current and future requirements.

Hospital St Josef, located in Schweinfurt, Bavaria (Germany) is a 90-year old Catholic institution offering specialist medical care to circa 13,000 inpatients and 17,000 outpatients each year, and has training facilities for up to 75 students. It employs circa 750 people and is the only denominational hospital in the Schweinfurt area. This major investment in local health care infrastructure is thought to be currently one the highest volume hospital projects in northern Bavaria (Germany).

The WFW Germany Regulatory, Public Law & Competition team that advised Hospital St Josef was led by Partner and German Head of Regulatory, Public Law & Competition Dr. Felix Siebler and Senior Associate Verena Sauer.

Felix commented: “We are pleased to have advised Hospital St Josef again and on this complex tendering procedure for such an important project in the health care sector. This investment will make a significant difference to many people in need of medical support in Schweinfurt and its surrounding areas. It further illustrates WFW Germany’s capacity to provide high level, impactful regulatory and public procurement law advice with regard to social infrastructure”.
