Giovanni Battista is Counsel in the Corporate and M&A Group.

Giovanni Battista is a dual qualified attorney admitted to practice in Italy and in New York.

His work focusses on cross-border and domestic M&A transactions, private equity, international arbitrations, in-court and out-of-court restructurings and complex litigations.

Giovanni Battista has advised sellers, purchasers and investors across several industries including, energy, real estate and infrastructure and has represented sovereign funds and international corporations in ad-hoc and institutional arbitrations under the ICC, UNCITRAL, SAC, SCC, CRCICA and CAM arbitration rules in connection with post-acquisition disputes, oil & gas contracts, large-scale construction contracts, international sanctions and investment treaties.

Giovanni Battista holds a J.D. summa cum laude and a Ph.D. in Civil and Roman Law from the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’ as well an LL.M. from Columbia University. He attended the LL.M. programme as a Fulbright Scholar and completed it with the Harlan Fiske Stone Scholarship for superior academic achievements.

Prior to joining WFW, Giovanni Battista worked for a leading international law firm in New York, London and Rome, as well as in leading Italian law firms.

In the 2025 Legal500 ranking, Giovanni Battista was recognised as a ‘Key Lawyer’ in the Commercial, Corporate and M&A category.

A native Italian speaker, he is fluent in English, French and Spanish.

Ha assistito venditori, acquirenti ed investitori operanti, tra l’altro, nei settori energy, real estate e infrastructure ed ha rappresentato fondi sovrani e multinazionali in arbitrati ad-hoc ed istituzionali ai sensi dei Regolamenti di arbitrato ICC, UNCITRAL, SAC, SCC, CRCICA e CAM in relazione a post-acquisition disputes, contratti di oil&gas, appalti di grandi opere, international sanctions sa e investment treaties.

Giovanni Battista ha conseguito la Laurea in Giurisprudenza summa cum laude ed il Dottorato di Ricerca in Diritto Civile e Romanistico presso l’Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza”, nonché il Master of Laws presso la Columbia University di New York con una borsa di studio Fulnright. Al termine del programma del Master, gli è stata conferita la Harlan Fiske Stone Scholarhisp per superior academic achievements.

Prima di collaborare con WFW, Giovanni Battista ha lavorato presso un primario studio legale internazionale a New York, Londra e Roma, e presso primari studi legali italiani.
