Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) is delighted to announce that the firm has won two Deal of the Year awards at The Asset Triple A Sustainable Infrastructure Awards 2025:
- Renewable Energy Deal of the Year: Triple first-of-its-kind Indonesian solar and BESS project for the new Indonesian capital city; and
- Renewable Energy Deal of the Year – Rooftop Solar: Loan facility to BEI for a Filipino rooftop solar PV initiative.
The Renewable Energy Deal of the Year was awarded for the firm’s work advising PT PLN (Persero) (“PLN”) on the development and financing of Indonesia’s first co-located solar PV and battery energy storage system (“BESS”), which will be the first project to power Indonesia’s future capital city Ibu Kota Nusantara (“IKN”) on the island of Kalimantan. Precedent-setting on multiple fronts; it is the first project to reach financial close after changes arising from PLN’s holding-subholding corporate reorganisation. The WFW Asia Pacific Projects team that advised PLN was led by Energy Sector Head – Asia Pacific Clarinda Tjia-Dharmadi and included Partner Merrick White as well as Michelle Vickers and Tram Nguyen.
The Renewable Energy Deal of the Year – Rooftop Solar was awarded for our role advising the Asian Development Bank (“ADB”) and Philippine National Bank (“PNB”) on a loan to Buskowitz Energy Inc to finance the development of rooftop solar projects across the Philippines. The financing will be key to promoting the country’s clean energy transition by increasing access to sustainable power solutions for commercial and industrial users. The WFW Asia Pacific Finance team that advised ADB and PNB was led by Partner Matt Lorimer, supported by Associate Jim Chan.
Clarinda commented: “These awards underscore WFW’s ongoing commitment to leading the energy transition across Asia on project financing for pioneering projects at this time of evolution in the Indonesian energy sector”.
Matt added: “It’s an honour to be recognised for our work on this innovative rooftop solar project. The deal demonstrates our ability to develop project finance structures in new jurisdictions and I’m proud of the team’s role in helping to deliver a cleaner, more resilient energy future”.
