WFW Senior Associate Javier Ruffín named “Energy Lawyer of the Year” in Iberian Lawyer’s “Forty Under 40 Awards”8 October 2025

Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) is delighted that leading sector publication Iberian Lawyer named Madrid Corporate and M&A Senior Associate Javier Ruffín in its “Forty Under 40 Awards” 2025.

The “Forty Under 40 Awards” honour next-generation lawyers across Spain and Portugal under the age of 40, who are nominated by their peers, colleagues and clients in recognition of their skills and dedication to their industry.

Javier advises leading energy and infrastructure companies on a wide range of corporate and M&A transactions, such as bidding processes, joint ventures and complex project contracts including EPCs, O&Ms and PPAs. His expertise spans every phase of the project lifecycle —from early development through construction and operation—across all renewable energy classes including photovoltaic, wind, thermosolar, biomass, biomethane and biodiesel. He also contributes to strategic transactions in the infrastructure sector, such as, railways, ports and electricity transmission networks.

WFW Global Energy Sector Head – Europe & Americas and Madrid Office Head María Pilar García Guijarro, one of Spain’s leading corporate and M&A lawyers herself, commented: “I am incredibly proud that Javier has been recognised as ‘Energy Lawyer of the Year’ in Iberian Lawyer’s “Forty Under 40 Awards”. This honour reflects his outstanding professional excellence, deep commitment to the energy sector and the talent that drives the future of our firm”.

Javier added: “I’m truly grateful for this recognition. It’s a testament to the trust our clients place in us, the collaboration and support of my colleagues and the opportunities I’ve had to grow within WFW. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the energy sector with the same passion and commitment going forward”.
