WFW shortlisted for Restructuring Team of the Year at The Lawyer Awards17 September 2021

Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) is delighted that the firm has been shortlisted for ‘Restructuring Team of the Year’ for The Lawyer Awards, which will be held virtually on Tuesday 2nd November 2021.

The Lawyer Awards recognise excellence in the UK legal profession and their annual ceremony is one of the key highlights of the legal year, with the winners determined by a judging panel comprised of leading industry experts from the bar, private practice and in-house sectors.

WFW was shortlisted for ‘Restructuring Team of the Year’ based on its general excellence and activity across its core sectors of Transport, Energy and Real Estate, but with specific focus on its restructuring work and experience in the aviation sector where it has been significantly involved in all of the major aviation restructurings since the onset of the pandemic, with particular attention drawn to its multiple roles advising key creditors in the Virgin Atlantic Airlines (VAA) restructuring.

Restructuring & Insolvency Partner Stephen Parker commented: “As a sector specialist firm focussed on transport, energy and real estate, WFW has been able to bring our specialist expertise to bear advising on many of the most significant restructurings in the aviation and shipping sectors of the past year, including voluntary restructurings, Schemes of Arrangement, Chapter 11 proceedings and court-supervised restructurings in other jurisdictions. I’m absolutely delighted our restructuring experience and excellence, both generally and specifically regarding VAA, has been recognised by The Lawyer with this shortlisting”.

Global Aviation Sector Co-Head Jim Bell added: “With the onset of the Covid pandemic, passenger transport was particularly hard hit and WFW has been privileged to have had a role (and often more than one) on almost every significant restructuring in these sectors. Congratulations to everyone at WFW who helped us garner this important recognition”.
