WFW Partners Evan Stergoulis and Malte Jordan recognised as leading lawyers to wind sector17 August 2018

Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) is delighted to announce that two of its Partners, Evan Stergoulis and Malte Jordan, have been ranked among the world’s 100 most influential lawyers to the wind sector in this year’s Legal Power List 2018, published by respected industry news provider A Word About Wind (“AWAW”).

London-based Evan Stergoulis, Head of the firm’s Global Energy & Infrastructure Group, was ranked 26th in recognition of his over 20 years of experience in the sector, including most recently leading the WFW team advising the institutional investors on the £1.2bn investment-grade bond acquisition of a 50% stake in the 659 MW Walney Extension offshore wind farm. This was widely recognised as one of the leading sector deals of 2017, winning several prestigious awards including European Renewables Deal of the Year at the PFI2017 Awards and European Wind Deal of the Year at the IJGlobal 2017 Awards. Evan’s unrivalled standing as a legal adviser to the wind industry is also recognised by top legal directory Chambers UK who note he is endorsed by the market as “fantastic at wind and offshore wind”, and leading legal weekly The Lawyer, who nominated him last year to their Hot 100 2017 ranking of the “UK’s most daring, innovative and creative lawyers” for the energy sector.

Hamburg Partner Malte Jordan, ranked 49th, was also recognised for his expertise advising on renewables transactions in general and offshore wind in particular. Recent highlight matters he has led on include advising a syndicate of banks acting as lenders on the €1.3bn Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm project financing and PNE WIND on its sale of the Atlantis I offshore wind park project to the Swedish utility Vattenfall. Malte is also acknowledged as a leading renewables lawyer in Germany by Chambers Europe, which stated that he is praised by clients as “an excellent negotiator with very good market overview” and “enjoys a distinguished pedigree in offshore wind matters, with expertise in private equity transactions, investments, corporate finance and restructurings”.

Both Evan and Malte were also ranked in AWAW’s inaugural Legal Power List 2016, while fellow Partner Ravinder Sandhu was one of only seven lawyers worldwide to be nominated to AWAW’s Women’s Power List 2017, which recognised the leading 100 women across the wind sector worldwide.
