Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) is pleased to announce that assets and structured finance expert Paul Coggins has joined the firm as a partner in its Tokyo office. He was previously at Norton Rose Fulbright, where he has been a partner since 2016 and led the firm’s maritime practice in Japan. Paul originally completed his training at WFW in London, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Paul’s practice focuses on the maritime sector, where he advises leading commercial banks, ECAs and sponsors on innovative financing structures, including complex cross-border projects, asset-based leasing and debt facilities. His expertise also spans key commercial shipping agreements such as shipbuilding contracts and charterparties and guiding clients through ship sales, joint venture projects, acquisitions of ship-owning companies and shipping loan portfolios, and enforcements.
WFW Global Maritime Sector Head George Macheras commented: “We’re thrilled to welcome Paul back to WFW. His deep knowledge of the maritime market and ability to navigate complex transactions will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our presence in Asia and deliver exceptional service to our clients”.
Paul added: “It’s fantastic to return to WFW and reconnect with such a talented team. The firm’s reputation in the maritime sector is second to none and I’m excited to help expand its footprint both in Japan and across the broader Asia-Pacific region”.
