Valerie is a Partner in the Finance group.

Valerie advises banks and financial institutions in asset, offshore oil and gas, project finance and various general banking and finance transactions. She has acted for various shipowners as well as container and ship leasing companies, on sale-and-leaseback transactions and other asset financing structures such as JOLCOs.

Valerie has worked on various financings involving the leading export credit agencies in Asia, with a particular focus on transactions with CEXIM, KEXIM, SINOSURE and K-SURE in the maritime sector.

She has also acted for bank syndicates in debt restructuring, work-out and enforcement situations in the maritime sector.

Valerie has been recognised recently by Legal 500 as a “Rising Star” as well as by Chambers Asia Pacific as an “Up and Coming Lawyer” in the shipping finance sector. Clients have commented that Valerie is “very much on top of her game” and “a safe pair of hands, who is very good and client friendly”.

  • Advising a leading Japanese shipowner in the sale and leaseback of a fleet of LNG vessels which is to be let on long-term charter to a prominent South East Asian national oil and gas supplier.
  • Advising a leading Singapore-based shipowner on financing for certain bulk carriers under a JOLCO structure with a well-known Japanese leasing house.
  • Advising a top tier Chinese leasing house on the sale and leaseback providing both pre- and post-delivery financing for a fleet of newbuild tankers to a well-established German based shipowner and operator.
  • Advising a syndicate of lenders led by a premier Chinese bank on the re-financing for a fleet of container vessels which are subject to a sale and leaseback and sub-chartering to a leading Swiss-based charterer / operator.
  • Advising a syndicate of lenders led by Citibank N.A. and Nordea Bank Finland plc, New York Branch on a Sinosure-backed term loan facility of up to US$964m to Gener8 Maritime.
