Paul is a Partner in the maritime group.
An assets and structured finance expert, Paul’s practice focusses on the maritime sector where he advises commercial banks, ECAs and sponsors on a range of innovative financing structures. These include complex cross-border projects, asset-based leasing and debt facilities.
His expertise extends to negotiating key commercial shipping agreements, such as shipbuilding contracts and charterparties, as well as guiding clients through ship sales, joint venture projects, acquisitions of ship-owning companies and shipping loan portfolios and enforcements.
- Advising JBIC and a syndicate of commercial lenders in relation to the financing of a newbuild FSRU to be operated by MOL and chartered on delivery to GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. for deployment in the port of Gdansk, Poland. This is Poland’s first FSRU and has been designated by the EU as a "Project of Common Interest", an infrastructure development project that contributes at a regional level.
- Advising Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd. on a JOLCO financing to support the construction and acquisition of four state-of-the-art 13,700 TEU container vessels, representing JBIC’s and NEXI’s first participation in such a vessel-related financing using a JOLCO scheme.
- Advising a sponsor consortium on its successful tender and award of time charters for LNG carriers numbering in the double-digits for the QatarEnergy vessel procurement project across multiple rounds, including advising on the project financing of those vessels.
- Advising financiers on the project financing of eleven FPSO units for Modec, Inc. and other Japanese sponsors, including on the first project financings of FPSO projects in Ghana and Mexico.
- Advising Marubeni and SK Shipping on the private placement US bond refinancing of two LNG carriers chartered to Total for the Ichthys LNG project, employing a highly tailored 'Flip Note' structure.
