James is an Associate in the Maritime and Dispute Resolution groups.
A newly-qualified Associate, James’ training at a leading maritime firm in both London and Dubai means that he already has a wide range of experience in contentious and non-contentious shipping matters.
He assists in advising clients across the maritime industry, including shipowners, charterers, and bunkers suppliers and traders. James’ contentious matter experience to date includes assisting on high-value UK and Singapore-based arbitrations regarding charterparty and bunkers quality disputes and advising on charterparty disputes relating to late redelivery and demurrage.
James also has experience acting for both buyers and sellers on the sale and purchase of commercial vessels registered under various flags.
- Acting for disponent owners in two SCMA arbitrations with owners and sub-charterers, following damage to a vessel, with ensuing multi-million-dollar disputes for unpaid hire and damages for non-payment.
- Acting for global bunker traders in an LMAA and an SCMA arbitration against owners and physical suppliers respectively, regarding alleged off-specification bunkers and mechanical issues suffered by the vessel.
- Acting for global subsea cable owners and operators in relation to numerous multi-million-dollar damages claims caused by vessel anchors.
- Advising owners in potential charterparty disputes relating to late redelivery and unpaid demurrage.
- Acting for buyers and sellers in multiple multi-million-dollar ship sale and purchase transactions, with vessels registered under various flags including the Marshall Islands, Panama, and the Bahamas.
