WFW deal wins Proximo’s Storage Deal of the Year 10 June 2026

Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) is pleased to announce that the Thorpe Marsh BESS project in Yorkshire, on which the firm advised a consortium of lenders and hedge counterparties, has won Storage Deal of the Year at the Proximo Deal of the Year Awards. It was selected for its complexity as the UK’s largest BESS project and one of the largest in Europe. The transaction was also recognised as IJ Global’s BESS Deal of the Year, Europe in March and PFI’s European Battery Storage Deal of the Year in February.

WFW advised the lenders and hedge counterparties on the £594m debt package for construction of the 1.45 GW (2.9 GWh) project, significantly increasing the UK’s installed BESS capacity. Construction began in Q4 2025, with first operations expected in mid-2027.

London Projects Partner Jennifer Charles, who led the team advising the finance parties commented: “We are proud to see the Thorpe Marsh BESS project recognised within the industry again, reflecting the strength and ambition of this landmark transaction. This award reaffirms WFW’s reputation for delivering complex, market-leading energy and infrastructure deals, notably in the critical BESS-space”.
