Two WFW deals win at Proximo Deal of the Year Awards17 April 2024

Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) is pleased to announce that two deals that it advised on have won Europe Solar Deal of the Year and Europe Refinancing Deal of the Year at the Proximo Deal of the Year Awards.

WFW advised Sonnedix on the signing of an innovative €500m loan facility for the financing of the construction of its renewable development pipeline in Europe and the UK. The new, non-recourse facility allows Sonnedix to cluster, contract and construct its pipeline of renewable plants more efficiently and flexibly. This deal won Europe Solar Deal of the Year.

Europe Refinancing Deal of the Year went to the £350m refinancing of West Burton Energy’s UK Combined Cycle Gas Turbine and 49 MW battery storage facility – the largest UK gas generation project in over a decade – on which WFW advised the lenders.

London Projects Partner Katherine Best, who led the team advising Sonnedix, commented: “We are delighted to see a deal that we advised on be recognised by Proximo. The deal was a successful cross-border effort which highlighted WFW’s reputation as a leading law firm for big ticket, international renewables finance transactions that span multiple jurisdictions”.

London Projects Partner Jennifer Charles led the team on the West Burton transaction and added: “It is always pleasing to see deals that we have advised on achieve industry recognition. This deal in particular is a perfect example of the London team’s expertise in high-value project financing in the energy space and the award win highlights WFW’s expertise in supporting clients across the energy sector”.
