WFW secures dismissal of class action against Ryanair before Milan Court 29 July 2026

Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) successfully represented Ryanair before the Court of Milan’s Special Commercial Division in proceedings which have declared inadmissible a class action brought by consumer association Codici – Centro per i Diritti del Cittadino concerning aspects of the airline’s online check-in policy.

Upholding Ryanair’s defence, the Court found that one of the fundamental admissibility requirements for a class action had not been met, namely homogeneity of the individual rights that the proceedings sought to protect. The Court held that the positions of the potentially affected individuals displayed characteristics precluding their collective treatment within a single class action.

As a result, the Court declared the class action inadmissible, bringing the proceedings to an end at the preliminary stage.

The WFW Italy Aviation team that advised Ryanair was led by Of Counsel Matteo Castioni, supported by Senior Associates Alessandro Di Carlo and Michele Laterza and Associates Valeria Consonni and Giulia Ruini.
