Catherine is a REGISTERED FOREIGN LAWYER (ENGLAND & WALES) in the Asset & Structured Finance Group.

Catherine has extensive experience in ship financing. She advises on secured loan facilities, sale and leaseback transactions, debt restructuring, sale and purchase of vessels and export credit agency (ECA)-backed lending.

Prior to joining Watson Farley & Williams, Catherine worked in the ship finance team of a top tier international firm’s London and Hong Kong offices. She also spent time on secondment with the service company of a global shipping fund. Before joining the legal industry, she worked in the shipping team of a leading bank in Hong Kong. Her experience working within the shipping business and bank gives her a unique perspective on the concerns of owners, operators and financiers in the sector.

Catherine is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English. She is qualified in England and Wales.

  • Advising a leading bank in China in relation to a court sanctioned recovery plan and conciliation protocol. This transaction involved the restructuring of a loan in default to a convertible bond and equity issued by a company to buy out a French operator.
  • Advising an owner on a French tax lease transaction for the refinancing of four liquefied natural gas vessels.
  • Advising an owner on three different sale and leaseback transactions for the financing of the aggregate construction costs of 14 liquefied natural gas vessels.
  • Advising a leading European shipping bank on a secured revolving credit facility provided to a leading shipping company in relation to the refinancing of 31 vessels across two flag states.
  • Advising a Chinese leasing company on the sale and leaseback of vessels and the refinancing of the same fleet with a leading European shipping bank.
