Phil is a Senior Associate in the Maritime Group.
Phil is a transactional maritime lawyer with a focus on structured/asset finance, shipbuilding contracts, 2nd hand sale & purchase, bareboat and time charters, pooling arrangements, management agreements and various other commercial shipping matters.
Phil trained at WFW and has worked in the firm’s London, Hamburg and Singapore offices. He also has experience working at a major tanker owner/operator and the LNG-focused subsidiary of a major Japanese shipping conglomerate.
Phil ranked as a “Key Lawyer” in Legal 500 2022.
- Advising a major European cruise line on construction contract and financing aspects of an ECA-backed €2.5bn facility for three new vessels under construction with Chantiers de l’Atlantique.
- Acting for Nordea Bank and a syndicate of thirteen other lenders on a US$713m combined term and revolving loan facility to Euronav NV in relation to a fleet of nine VLCCs and three Suezmaxes.
- Advising Virgin Voyages on construction contract and financing aspects of an order for four inaugural cruise ships under construction with Fincantieri S.p.A.
- Advising a client shipowner on shipbuilding contract negotiations for a 174,000 M3 LNG carrier with Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea and a related long-term charter with oil major, together with ancillary agreements including option agreements, step in agreement etc.
- Representing Cerberus Capital Management in respect of its purchase of a €2.6bn shipping loan portfolio from Norddeutsche Landesbank.
