As a market leader in renewable energy, our close involvement in the sector has heightened our sense of shared responsibility for a sustainable environment. In 2008 we joined the Legal Sector Alliance (LSA), an initiative for UK law firms that promotes awareness of climate change and highlights the potential impact of our activities. LSA membership reinforces our commitment, and work so far, to reduce our carbon footprint and adopt sustainable practices.

We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint. In 2010 we offset half the entire firm’s carbon emissions (998.27 tonnes) by participating in the African Energy Efficient Stove Project with co2balance.com – providing several villages in Kenya with stoves that burn more efficiently.

Other recent initiatives include:

  • a green tariff for our London car and taxi service, reducing our vehicle carbon footprint by around 33%
  • a Cycle 2 Work scheme
  • business mileage rates when bicycles are used for business
  • the London office has a paper recycling scheme, created in conjunction with Paper Round, which  supports environmental charities like Trees for Cities
  • the Singapore office has been recycling with The Singapore Recycling Centre since 2005. Between January and November 2011 the Singapore office has recycled a total of 2,490kg of paper
  • the New York office has replaced bottled water with filtered water, switched to recycled paper and has introduced more environmentally friendly cleaning products as well as recycling points for cans, bottles, and paper products.
  • recycling points in the London office have made savings in the first six months of 2010 of over 31,000kg of CO2, the equivalent of 262 trees.
  • motion detection lighting in the London office helps improve energy efficiency
  • 10,000 e-cards at Christmas, with funds saved on printing sent to UNICEF.
