My decision to train with and qualify at WFW was largely based on the strong reputation of the firm’s finance practice, something confirmed by my vacation placement. The quality and complexity of work matches any magic circle firm. Recently I’ve been involved in a US$560 million vessel financing and the €335 million acquisition financing of a container business.
The department has a broad practice and I am constantly encouraged to gain exposure to different areas of work and types of client, so there’s no risk of the early specialisation some firms impose on junior lawyers. Most transactions have a cross-border element. We’ve just closed a deal with a funding structure involving seven jurisdictions, throwing up a number of challenging political and tax elements.
Though the work is international and often complex, there’s always plenty of support from colleagues and the firm’s resources are invaluable.
