As a trainee here I’ve had a sense of inclusion in, and exposure to, work that larger firms simply cannot offer. Not many first seats provide the opportunity to sit before a panel of law lords at the Supreme Court and win a multi-million dollar dispute, later featured as ‘Court win of the year’ in Global Arbitration Review. As a medium-sized international firm punching above its weight, WFW really does offer each trainee the chance to be closer to the action.
I’ve always been encouraged to take on real responsibility, being a regular point of contact for clients and opposition lawyers (invariably magic circle) in both project and shipping finance deals. I have attended a closing meeting alone at an international ship registry, drafted key deal documentation, and even helped our Paris office to prepare court submissions in French! It’s satisfying to know you’re making a genuine contribution as an important member of the team.
