WFW Highlights 2012


January 2012

  • The opening of our Frankfurt office complemented our Hamburg and Munich bases which were established in 2005 and 2009 respectively and together they have a total of almost 60 lawyers and tax consultants.
  • Partner and Head of WFW Thailand Steven Burkill was a panellist at the Evening Panel Discussion on Solar Energy, hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand in January 2012.

February 2012

  • WFW was involved in the project finance offshore wind farms deals that were named European Deals of the Year by Project Finance International, and Project Finance Magazine.
  • WFW London advised Presence Switzerland at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs on the contracts to establish the House of Switzerland at the 2012 London Olympics.

March 2012

  • The opening of our Hong Kong office, in association with Lau, Leong & Co, takes our number of global offices to 13 and significantly solidifies our presence in Asia.
  • WFW Bangkok partner Alan Polivnick was invited to join the Board of Directors of the Australian-Thai Chamber of Commerce.

April 2012

  • Nine lawyers from five of the firm's 13 offices were promoted to partner, bringing the total number of partners in the firm to 126.
  • WFW Singapore and Bangkok won a total of 17 ACQ Global Awards.

May 2012

  • 2012 marked the 30th anniversary of the founding of Watson, Farley & Williams
  • Firm-wide revenue for the financial year ending 30 April 2012 was 99.8m, up 12% on the previous year to 30 April 2011 (88.8m).

June 2012

  • WFW Paris grew its M&A/Corporate team with the recruitment of new energy and infrastructure transactions partner Vincent Trevisani.
  • WFW Bangkok partner Kay Kian Tan was named External Counsel of the Year by Asian-Mena Counsel.

July 2012

  • WFW London employment partner Angharad Harris, who is also chair of the Law Society's Employment Law Committee, was been appointed a member of the Working Party that carried out the Fundamental Review of Employment Tribunal Rules.

August 2012

  • WFW London was named Employment Law Firm of the Year in England Corporate INTL Global Awards 2012. WFW Thailand also won Litigation Firm of the Year in Thailand and Aviation Law Firm of the Year in Thailand.

September 2012

  • WFW Madrid expanded its practice with the recruitment of project finance partner Rodrigo Berasategui Verastegui, strengthen our European and Latin American expertise.
  • WFW New York partner Dan Rogers and WFW London partner Nigel Thomas moderated a panel of bankers discussing the lending market for offshore projects at Marine Money’s Brazil Offshore Finance Forum in Rio de Janeiro.

October 2012

  • WFW won International Firm of the Year at The Lawyer European Awards, and Best Legal Practice in Northern Germany at the JUVE awards.
  • WFW Paris and London partner Lindsey Keeble joined a panel discussion on shipping finance, focusing on ECA financing options, at the WISTA (Women for Innovation and Modernity in Shipping and Maritime Economy) conference in Paris.  

November 2012

  • WFW Germany-Asia desk was introduced to clients at an Investing in Asia at an event held in Hamburg.
  • WFW Singapore partner Mei Lin Goh addressed an audience on “Step in Rights” at the 6th Annual Korea Ship Finance forum, held in Busan.

December 2012

  • The arrival of partner Richard Wilmot and his team complemented the existing transactional and commercial practices within the Hong Kong office’s core sector strengths of maritime, natural resources and energy.
  • The fourth session of WFW’s Commodities and Export Finance series of briefings, “Commodities Finance: Reflections on 2012 and prospects for 2013”, took place in London.
