When preparing my training contract applications, it was clear that WFW's six seat structure and guaranteed seat abroad was different to almost every other firm in the City. This was especially attractive as I was not sure which area of law I wanted to specialise in.
I had regular meetings with HR and was encouraged to speak with partners and the heads of department as to the seats which I felt I would like to take.
I was given a great deal of responsibility compared with friends in other city firms. In each department I was encouraged to take more responsibility once I felt I had the necessary knowledge and capability. I was offered continuous support whether in relation to the legal aspects of a transaction or how to handle clients appropriately. Provided that I was comfortable with a transaction, I was often sent to meetings with clients or closing meetings by myself. This has certainly stood me in good stead for my current role.
