About Us
Watson Farley & Williams was founded in the City of London in May 1982. Since then, the firm has grown from three partners and a total staff of 11 in London, to 91 partners and over 540 staff worldwide.

Watson, Farley & Williams LLP or an affiliated undertaking has offices in London, New York, Paris, Hamburg, Munich, Athens, Piraeus, Singapore and Bangkok. We have experienced lawyers in all of our offices that are able to deal with a range of domestic and international financing projects and give local and multi-jurisdictional advice. The close working relationship between our offices enables our clients, wherever they are based, to utilise the expertise of the whole firm.

Areas of work

From our origins in ship financing, we have expanded rapidly to meet the demands of our clients and now provide a full range of legal services to our corporate clients. Our core business areas include corporate, project and asset based structured finance, litigation and tax.

Operationally, the firm is divided into five international practice groups: International Corporate, International Shipping Finance, International Project and Structured Finance, International Litigation and International Tax. The groups work together internationally and offer clients a genuinely integrated multi-jurisdictional service.

The International Corporate Group is divided into the following sub-groups: Corporate, Employment, EU Competition, Intellectual Property, Commercial Property and Projects. The group has particular expertise in the transportation, power, telecommunications and e-commerce sectors.

The International Shipping Finance Group works with a variety of clients in order to finance large capital assets in the shipping industry.

The International Project and Structured Finance Group focuses on the industry sectors heavily dependent on the financing of large capital assets, including aviation, telecommunications, power and energy.

The International Litigation Group handles litigation and arbitration, with a particular emphasis upon the banking, maritime, energy and aviation sectors. The firm has particular experience and specialisation in managing multi-jurisdiction ship finance enforcement proceedings.

The International Tax Group operates at the highest levels in big ticket leasing, international finance and tax planning, investigations and litigation.
