UK Trainee Recruitment

Becoming part of our team

Finding the right environment for this next stage of your training is important. As significant as the quality of what you learn will be the calibre of team you join and the way they involve you. These next few years will be formative ones and the standards and ambitions of those around you are likely to become yours too.

This is a high profile practice operating at the very highest levels on an international stage. Our teams are made up of clearly focused individuals with a well developed understanding of our clients’ commercial objectives. The word ‘team’ is not used loosely. We do not recruit graduates out of a sense of altruism. We are looking for motivated people who want to drive their careers forward as quickly as possible.

What we look for

We are very clear about the type of trainees we are looking for. We are equally certain about what we can offer in return. A law degree is not a prerequisite, but ability, enthusiasm and drive certainly are. Language skills can be invaluable given our firm’s multinational nature. We look for people who will enjoy law in an international environment and get a buzz out of being part of the commercial world.

Naturally we look for good social skills. We work closely with clients. We need to understand their businesses and objectives clearly if we are to provide the most commercially appropriate advice.

Most of all we look for initiative and energy. The law is the medium we work in but, more often than not, lateral thinking and resourcefulness are the qualities that differentiate us and the results we get for our clients.

How we can help you

As a trainee with us you will be offered a high level of involvement and responsibility. We don’t believe in spoon feeding. The emphasis is on gaining practical experience and learning to work as part of a team.

As you progress and your competence and confidence grow, there will be opportunities to assume responsibility for specific areas of a transaction or case. You won’t find yourself just providing back up for the rest of the team. Your role will be as varied as possible so that you get to experience, first hand, how complex, high profile projects are handled from start to finish.

With an intake of only 14 trainees each year, you will benefit from focused individual attention from your supervisors and our Graduate Trainee Manager.

Working abroad

Our trainees benefit from a six seat programme allowing you to experience the variety of working in a broad number of practice groups. At least one seat will be abroad, working in our Singapore, Bangkok, Paris or Piraeus office. Opportunities to work in our other offices may be created in future.

Seats will be in key areas such as our Finance teams, Corporate, and Litigation. Trainees will also have an opportunity to spend time in more specialist areas such as Property, Employment, EC/Competition and Taxation.

After work

As you will have gathered we are extremely focused. Success is what drives us and has built our reputation for the highest standards of practice. We do, however, enjoy a culture where work/life balance is embraced. Regular activities, from sports to parties, punctuate the calendar ensuring that people who work closely together enjoy the social side of work as well.
