Employment & Immigration
One of an employer’s greatest assets is its workforce. Considerable time, effort and expenditure is invested in ensuring that the best staff are recruited, retained, motivated and rewarded. A key part of any successful strategy for managing a workforce is to ensure that an employer maintains an understanding of the constantly changing legal issues and the expectations of its workforce. We pride ourselves on our ability to provide highly responsive, practical and commercial advice. Our clients value the bespoke service that we provide them and the fact that we understand their business and culture.

Our clients cover a diverse spread of industries, including banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions, e-commerce businesses, telecommunications and internet companies, transport and related enterprises, real estate, construction and engineering, retail, manufacturing, oil and gas, utility companies, auctioneers, television, advertising agencies and publishers and other professional firms. Our client contacts range from in-house lawyers and HR professionals to finance directors and managing directors. We also have particular expertise acting on behalf of senior executives/directors.

We advise on the full range of employment queries that tend to arise on a day-to-day basis ranging from general queries to more sophisticated/strategic issues. We actively work with clients in order to avoid disputes and to find creative solutions to work place problems.

The immigration lawyers in our Immigration team have wide ranging expertise in both executive and personal immigration matters. The breadth of our knowledge enables us to lead both businesses and individuals through the evolving maze of immigration options available.

The Employment Group is recommended in both the Legal 500 and Chambers guides to the legal profession. Specific reference is made in the Chambers guide to our “seamless service” and the “good response times” provided by our “close knit” team. In the 2006 Legal 500 guide they refer to the “depth of knowledge” of our team which “inspires clients’ absolute confidence”. It also refers to client sources who state that Liz Buchan and Angharad Harris are both “down to earth and understand our business” and “provide only the advice which is strictly necessary to address the question”, making us cost effective.

Know-how and legal training services

We provide a comprehensive range of employment and immigration law training aimed at HR professionals, directors, line managers and administrators. We aim to work with our clients to build upon their existing legal knowledge and experience in a constructive way. We hold an annual employment law seminar and specialist workshops as well as providing a bespoke training service for clients and third parties.

We design and build training programmes that are tailored to the learning objectives of our target audience. Our training activities range from small interactive workshop sessions to more formal presentations.

Our legal training services are delivered by qualified solicitors who have a real passion for and interest in employment and immigration law. The training team all have excellent presentation skills that enable them to encourage and draw out their audience so that the training sessions are lively and interactive.

The fact that solicitors deliver our training activities also enables the material and examples to be extremely client focussed, giving real life examples of human resources problems encountered by businesses on a day-to-day basis. As a result, our training provides a practical illustration of the law, giving examples of different approaches and ways to resolve problems.
