Thomas is an Associate in the Dispute Resolution group in the London office of Watson Farley & Williams.

He specialises in commercial dispute resolution, with experience in commercial litigation and various arbitration forums (e.g. LMAA, LCIA). He has particular experience in the maritime sector, advising banks and shipowners on contentious matters involving charterparties, guarantees and finance documents as well as offshore construction companies in respect of various disputes.

Thomas has substantial experience of working on international matters and is a fluent Dutch, German and French speaker.

Experience Open

    Thomas’s experience includes:
    • Acting for syndicate of banks in LCIA arbitration proceedings against defaulting borrowers/guarantors.
    • Acting for international company in JV dispute concerning a construction project.
    • Providing advice to various clients in respect of sanctions.
    • Advising owners and charterers in operational matters, providing contemporaneous advice in resolving ongoing issues between owners and charterers.
    • Acted for turnkey operator in High Court proceedings against an offshore construction company in respect of a balance of account dispute arising out of a construction of a Soft Yoke Mooring System.
    • Acted for turnkey operator against suppliers and re-insurers in respect of faulty pipelines on underwater pipeline project.
    • Provided ongoing advice to purchaser under a shipbuilding contract in respect of termination.
    • Acted for purchaser under a shipbuilding contract in LMAA arbitration proceedings bringing claim for breach of warranties against builder.
    • Acted for Hong Kong based owner in London High Court proceedings against defaulting UAE guarantor under several bareboat charters.
    • Advising client in respect of wording of a Contract of Affreightment.
    • Assisting UAE based shipowner in negotiations with major carrier re bill of lading wording.
    • Acted for owner in s.68 and s.69 appeal to the High Court of an arbitration award brought by charterer.
    • Assisting bondholders in the arrest and judicial sale of several offshore supply vessels within the context of a restructuring of the issued bonds.
    • Advising oil major on terms of charterparty following review.
