Summary Open

Simon is a Partner in the Finance group, specialising in the maritime sector. Simon advises banks, other financiers, owners and other participants on all aspects of debt, leasing and structured finance; security; construction and conversion; sale and purchase; operational and corporate matters. He has assisted on a number of public placement transactions. He has also been involved in a number of high-profile restructuring, work-out and dispute resolution matters.

Simon ”has a wealth of experience and is also very approachable and friendly” (Chambers Asia-Pacific 2018) and is “very knowledgeable…combined with a commercial approach and effective transaction management skills” (Legal 500 2018).     • Acting for certain lending banks in connection with a number of restructurings in the shipping and offshore sectors. These are ongoing, and are price-sensitive, so remain confidential.
    • Acting for international lending banks to a top-tier ship owner, including Bank of America, HSBC, Santander and Mizuho in connection with its bulk carrier fleet financings.
    • Acting for Precious Shipping Public Company Ltd in connection with its cancellation and restructuring of its newbuilding order book with Sanfu and Sainty yards in China.
    • Acting for international lending banks to a top-tier ship owner, including Citibank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Crédit Agricole CIB, DekaBank, ING Bank NV and Nordea Bank in connection with various tanker and container vessel financings.
    • Acting for a top-tier ship owner in connection with a construction contract and end-user charter involving a cement carrier project.
    • Acting for an international oil major in connection with a shariah-compliant financing of certain assets located in South East Asia.
    • Acting for a top-tier ship owner in connection with a series of sale and leaseback financings of its bulk carrier fleet.
    • Acting for a well-known ship owner in connection with a construction and leasing project for a fleet of multi-gas carriers in China.
    • Acting for Global Process Systems in connection with its Cendor field operations.
    • Acting for Brunei Gas Carriers in connection with the (Islamic) financing, construction, delivery, employment, management and operation of its “A-Class” LNG carrier fleet.
    • Acting for a South East Asian offshore owner operator in connection with the financing of its FPSO.
    • Acting for a syndicate of banks led by HSH Nordbank AG in connection with the financing of Allocean Carriers fleet; and further advising the banks in relation to the subsequent restructurings following the insolvency of the Allco group and, latterly, Sanko.
    • Acting for Bank of Scotland (latterly Lloyds Bank) and Crédit Agricole CIB in connection with the financing and subsequent enforcement and workout of various Eastwind vessels following Eastwind’s Chapter 7 insolvency.
    • Acting for a syndicate of banks led by HSH Nordbank AG in connection with the financing of Tallink’s acquisition of the Silja Ferries fleet as part of the Sea Containers Chapter 11 restructuring.
    • Advising Astilleros Españoles’ Astano yard in connection with a series of FPSO conversion projects.
