Rob is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution group in London.

He specialises in international commercial arbitration and advises corporates and multi-nationals across a broad range of industry sectors with particular focus on energy/oil & gas, natural resources, maritime, insurance and manufacturing. He trained and qualified with WFW in London, worked out of the firm’s Bangkok office from 2007 and returned to London in 2016.

Experience Open

    Rob’s experience includes:
    • Advising an international, integrated oil and gas company on the protection of its interests in respect of the settlement of a long running international arbitration concerning its joint venture partners and the regional government of a West Asian state.
    • Acting for a state-owned energy company in a multi-million dollar dispute in respect of claims and counterclaims arising out of the failed design, supply and implementation of an integrated Commodities Trading Risk Management system procured from a major US-based global IT systems and software supplier (Technology and Construction Court, London).
    • Advising a Singapore-based wind development company in respect of multi-billion Baht claims brought against it in Thailand for alleged infringement of intellectual property rights.
    • Advising one of the world’s leading petrochemical producers in respect of a construction dispute relating to a fibre plant in Southern Thailand jointly owned by it and a Japanese entity.
    • Advising reinsurers and cedant insurers in the defence of claims worth in the region of US$100m relating to an oil spill in the Gulf of Thailand.
    • Advising a senior executive in the oil & gas industry in settlement negotiations with the UK and Thai entities of his former employer following the early termination of his employment contract.
    • Advising a major South East Asian shipping group in connection with claims for payment for bunkers supplied to three vessels through OWB from third party physical suppliers based in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Sweden respectively.
    • Acting for a global engineering services provider in an arbitration dispute arising out of its sub-contractor’s failure to adequately complete electrical and instrument system installation work at a power plant in Southern Thailand.
    • Acting for a major Thai integrated petrochemical refinery in claims exceeding US$300m in 21 concurrent arbitrations for breaches of confidence, infringement of intellectual property rights & trade secrets and breaches of contract, with challenges in the English High Court (ad hoc arbitrations, London seat).
    • Acting for one of Thailand’s leading palm oil producers in a US$20m against a Malaysian steam boiler manufacturer (ICC Rules, Bangkok seat, Singapore venue).
    • Acting for a Thai company in a multi-million dollar arbitration concerning a contract to build and operate a process plant and supply products to the Thai subsidiary of a world-leading multinational food and beverage company (UNCITRAL Rules, Bangkok seat, Singapore venue).
    • Providing ad hoc advice to the largest power company in South East Asia in respect of its chartering operations including delivering a one-day workshop to the client’s legal and logistics personnel on charterers’ obligations to pay freight and to load within the prescribed laytime.
    • Acting for a leading provider of tender rig drilling and subsea engineering services in a multi-million dollar mediation relating to disputed hire payments and compensation for termination/demobilisation costs arising out of its charterer’s decision to unilaterally suspend hire of a barge (SIAC Rules, Singapore seat, parties agreed to SMC mediation)
    • Providing ad hoc advice to a major South East Asian shipping group on various contracts routinely entered into in the course of its business including memoranda of agreement, charterparties and contracts of affreightment.
    • Advising Malaysia’s leading multinational and one of the largest conglomerates in South East Aisa in a multi-million dollar arbitration arising out of the construction of drilling platforms to be installed offshore Nigeria (UNCITRAL Rules, London seat)
    • Advising a Danish-Italian manufacturer in the automotive industry in relation to a claim against a Thai partner for payment of outstanding dividends.
