Kate joined Watson Farley & Williams in 2007 as a trainee solicitor. She qualified into the International Asset Finance department of the Paris office in 2009 before returning to WFW’s London office in January 2012. Kate specialises in asset finance with a focus on shipping. She has experience on a variety of transactions including ECA backed products, offshore and FSRU financings and container and cruise ship financings and has advised on loan facilities, leasing arrangements and leasetails, portfolio transfers, complex restructurings and intercreditor agreements. Kate has acted for Owners, Lenders and Charterers.

Experience Open

  • Advising on the restructuring of three SACE backed loan facilities following Norwegian Cruise Line’s acquisition of Prestige Cruises.
  • Advising MSC Cruises on the ECA backed financing of its innovative modernisation of four cruise ships each involving the addition of a new pre-built mid-section in dry dock at Fincantieri in Sicily.
  • Advising CACIB, KfW IPEX, Societe Generale and HSBC on the SACE supported financing of a 738 passenger luxury cruise ship for Regent Seven Seas.
  • Assisting CACIB with the financing of a cruise ship under construction at Fincantieri, Italy pursuant to a €300million SACE backed term loan facility to a subsidiary of Oceania Cruises, Inc.
  • Acting for a major European shipowner on the US$1.1 billion ECA backed loan financing to finance 6 new LNG carrier vessels and two floating, storage and regasification vessels.
  • Assisting a potential purchaser of the shipping loan portfolio of a major UK bank in making a competitive bid.
  • Assisting major UK bank Lessors and Lessees in the termination of various ship finance leases.
  • Assisting certain European banks on various loan portfolio transfers including the transfer of agency and security trustee roles and various associated due diligence.
  • Assisting a major European cruise ship operator on the financing of its latest 4,400 passenger cruise ship financing involving COFACE support.
  • Assisting CACIB in connection with a US$93,000,000 pre and post-delivery loan facility agreement to finance the acquisition of two 112,000 DWT aframax product tankers.
  • Acting in connection with a US$58.2 million loan facility to be made available by BNP Paribas to partly refinance and finance the acquisition of two tanker vessels.
  • Assisting BNP Paribas on a US$90m pre and post delivery SACE backed project financing of two transhipment vessels for Coeclerici SpA under construction in China and for delivery on long term charter to Vale.
  • Assisting BNPP on the restructuring of (originally) a US$544,212,000 pre and post delivery export credit backed financing of four TEU container vessels to enable the delivery of all four vessels in difficult market circumstances.
