Jonathan is a Partner in the Banking & Finance group of Watson Farley & Williams, based in Munich. He specialises in asset finance and his primary area of practice is aviation finance, including structured and large-scale domestic and cross-border finance transactions, tax and non-tax based leasing and the sale and purchase of assets.

Jonathan has acted for export credit agencies, funds, lessors, airlines, banks, equity providers, private individuals and manufacturers across a whole spectrum of aviation deals including operating leasing, debt financing, pre-delivery payment financing, individual aircraft and portfolio sales and purchases, Japanese operating leases, securitisations, German KG fund leases, Spanish tax operating leases, synthetic leasing, engine financing, manufacturer support and export credit transactions.

Jonathan has worked in London and Singapore before settling in Munich. He has also spent time on secondment with KfW and Air Berlin.

A native English speaker, Jonathan also speaks fluent German.

    Jonathan’s experience includes advising:
    • German Operating Aircraft Leasing GmbH on the financing of nine aircraft of various types on an operating lease to a number of different jurisdictions using an umbrella alternative investment fund structure for institutional investors.
    • LHI Leasing GmbH on the initial structuring and financing of one GE 90 aircraft engine leased to Emirates utilising an Alternative Investment Fund structure.
    • WealthCap with respect to the structuring of an Alternative Investment Fund structure for the acquisition and leasing of three A330 aircraft to be leased to Singapore Airlines.
    • Credit Agricole CIB in relation to the restructuring of a portfolio of German KG fund financings with lease attached following the insolvency of the KG arranger.
    • A fund arranger on the restructuring of the debt financing for a KG financing of one Airbus A380 aircraft.
    • KGAL in respect of the sale and leaseback of twelve aircraft to easyJet.
    • KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH in respect of the unwinding of a JOL financing and related issues concerning the enforcement of the Airbus asset value guarantee.
    • Euler Hermes, KfW-IPEX Bank GmbH and Apple Bank on the financing of three Airbus aircraft owned by AWAS and on operating lease to Aeroflot – Russian Airlines.
    • KfW on the commercial financing of an A330 aircraft for TUI Travel Aviation Finance Ltd.
    • WealthCap Managemant GmbH on a complex tax and capital markets-based structured sale and leaseback of one A380 aircraft leased to Singapore Airlines.
    • KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH in relation to a French tax lease of an Airbus aircraft for Air China.
    • A German fund house on the sale and leaseback of an Airbus A380 to Singapore Airlines.
    • On the financing of two Boeing 737 aircraft by Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale for Air Berlin PLC & Co. Luftverkehrs KG.
    • Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale on the restructuring of a KG fund aircraft financing for two A319 aircraft following the insolvency of the operating lessee.
    • Euler Hermes and Commerzbank AG in relation to an ECA backed financing for Niki Luftfahrtgesellschaft mbH.
