George Macheras is a senior associate in the firm’s Finance Group.

He specialises in shipping and offshore. He advises banks, financial institutions and shipping companies (owners, managers and charterers) on all aspects of ship financing (including restructurings and work-outs and particularly with a warehousing element) as well as on the commercial matters relating to the sale, purchase, employment and operation of ships (newbuilding and second-hand). George has worked in the firm’s Athens office and has been previously seconded to the Royal Bank of Scotland where he assisted on structured finance transactions.

George joined Watson Farley & Williams in 2010, following his qualification as a solicitor. Prior to joining WFW, George was a trainee solicitor with another international law firm in London, where he undertook a secondment to the asset finance team of Barclays Bank.

Experience Open

    • Advising Marubeni Corporation and SK Shipping on all aspects (construction, chartering and financing) of their two LNG carrier joint project in Australia.
    • Advising BNP Paribas on the restructuring of the ECA-backed US$544.212m pre and post delivery financing (and related charter arrangements) to Zim Israel in connection with five container vessels.
    • Advising Teekay Corporation in relation to a wide number of its LNG carrier and offshore unit financings, including a US$330m FPSO term loan facility, a US$225m three-FPSO term loan facility and US$255m (in aggregate) of two LNG carrier facilities (also involving a sale & leaseback element).
    • Assisting various commercial banks (based in the UK and internationally) with number of warehousing structures (involving specialist houses as well as long-term owners).
    • Advising a French bank on a complex distressed-asset type financing of two product tankers to a NYSE listed group.
    • Advising Enesel S.A. in relation to its ECA-backed US$380m financing relating to five 13,800 TEU container vessels.
    • Advising Geden Lines on the fleet-wide global restructuring of its vessel financings and charter arrangements.
    • Advising a number of private equity funds on the sale & purchase (both newbuilding and second-hand) as well as the employment (including chartering and pooling) of a variety of vessels, such as LNG carriers, container ships, crude oil tankers and chemical carriers.
    • Advising a number of European banks on various inter and intra group loan portfolio transfers (for maritime assets and otherwise).
    • Advising The Royal Bank of Scotland on the financings and lease arrangements involving vessels long-term chartered to BP.
