Devan is a Partner in the Employment group in the London office of Watson Farley & Williams.

Devan advises on contentious and non-contentious employment law both for individuals and companies, which includes drafting employment contracts, negotiating settlement agreements, advising on the employment aspects of share and business acquisitions and TUPE. Devan also specialises in immigration matters such as all aspects of the Points-Based Immigration System, including Tier 2 and complex investor and entrepreneur applications and EEA and UK nationality applications. Devan is the co-author of the Immigration chapter of the UKTI’s Investors’ Guide to the UK publication.

Experience Open

    Devan’s relevant experience includes:
    • Acting for an international professional services firm in respect of the employment aspects of an outsourcing contract won in relation to the provision of facilities management services across numerous properties and co-ordinating advice across over multiple jurisdictions in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, including advice on the transfer of employees, the Acquired Rights Directive (where applicable) and contracts of employment.
    • Advising Frasers Hospitality UK Holdings Ltd on the employment aspects of the acquisition of Malmaison Hotel du Vin hotel group from private equity firm KSL Capital Partners, LLC, for a consideration of £363.4m (US$760m).
    • Advising an aviation firm on its employment matters, including policies, holiday pay and pilot contracts.
    • Advising a senior individual on the termination of their employment following the introduction of a new LLP structure and negotiating their termination package and settlement agreement.
    • Advising an international shipping firm on its ongoing employment and immigration matters, including redundancies and terminations.
    • Advising a financial services professional on disciplinary proceedings brought by the employer following their handing in their notice.
    • Advising a range of clients across several sectors, including the Tech Sector and Shipping Sectors, on all aspects of Tier 2 of the Points Based Immigration System, including obtaining a sponsorship licence, preparing for a Home Office visit and all aspects of obtaining visas for their staff.
    • Advising an individual on obtaining an EEA Permanent Residence card for their non-EEA partner where there were complications in respect of their employment history.
    • Advising a Chinese applicant on an emergency extension of their Tier 1 (Investor) visa based on an investment in a private limited company.
