Summary Open

Chris trained at Watson Farley & Williams qualifying in 2000, became a Partner in 2008, and moved to the firm’s Singapore office in 2013 before relocating back to London in 2017. His practice covers a broad range of corporate work with particular experience in the natural resources, energy and transportation sectors. He advises on deals including strategic alliances (joint venture arrangements and private equity fundraisings), mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and commercial transactions. Chris is recommended by independent legal directories which have commented that he “has a broad understanding of the industry and the various regulatory regimes in this region. He has brought this to bear in giving timely commercial advice.” – IFLR 2017.

Experience Open

    Chris’ experience includes advising:
    • SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad on its acquisition of Petronas’s interests in Blocks 01/97 and 02/97, Block 10 and 11.1 and Block 46CN, offshore Vietnam, for US$400m.
    • The Sabah Development Bank, on (a) the acquisition of an interest in ASX listed, Octanex NL, with assets in Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, (b) a subscription for loan notes convertible into Octanex NL or its subsidiary holding the group’s interest in the Ophir risk sharing contract in Malaysia and (c) a bridge facility.
    • Western Areas NL, the ASX listed nickel producer, on the spin off of its Finnish nickel assets through an AIM IPO by way of a reverse takeover of FinnAust Mining Plc.
    • Madagascar Oil on its AIM IPO and  a series of secondary placings and open offers raising over US$220m in aggregate to fund its onshore oil projects in Madagascar and steam flood pilot.
    • Matra Petroleum on the disposal of its onshore Russian assets including the Arkhangelovskoe field for consideration of US$35m and, separately, the acquisition of an interest in onshore US assets in the Panhandle of Texas for aggregate consideration of up to US$28m.
    • Great Western Minerals Group, the integrated rare-earth company, on its US$90m secured bond issuance through GMP Securities and ISM Capital and the listing of the bonds on the Professional Securities Market of the London Stock Exchange Plc.
    • Bayerngas on its North Sea acquisition strategy including its (a) purchase of Endeavour Energy’s interest in the Cygnus gas field for US$110m, (b) purchase of a 13% interest in the North Sea Babbage gas field from Centrica for undisclosed consideration and (c) farm-in to acquire a 25% interest in the Clipper South gas field from Fairfield Energy.
