WFW announced as winner of The Lawyer Awards 2007, Infrastructure Team of the Year

Watson, Farley & Williams (WFW) won The Lawyer’s Infrastructure Team of the Year category at the 2007 Lawyer Awards, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on 26 June. These are amongst the most prestigious awards in the UK legal profession.
This award recognises WFW’s work on the groundbreaking Teesside GasPort Project for Houston based client Excelerate Energy Limited. This project was the first of its type in the world and involved the construction of terminal facilities at Teesside to enable regasification of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) on-board the transportation vessel, so that natural gas could be unloaded directly to the gas transmission pipeline. With no English legislation to address directly the regulatory requirements for such a project, the WFW team had to work closely with the DTI in navigating through the Gas Act and Petroleum Act to ensure that the project could be delivered, as well as the more usual corporate, real estate and tax law issues. All this was achieved within a timescale of one year from conception to completion.
Anna Soroko, who led the team for WFW said “It is enormously satisfying to be singled out by one’s peers for the work on this project, but without the work of all involved in the team we would not be here today. What is particularly pleasing is that this project is very much a first and has the potential to revolutionise LNG distribution around the world, and with our support, similar projects are now in the advanced planning stages. This project, and the award, is a good example of the market leading expertise which WFW brings to the oil and gas, shipping and energy sectors.”
