The Attika Schools Project, marquee public-private-partnership (PPP) deal in Greece has been named as Education Project Finance Deal of the Year by World Finance magazine in its Project Finance Deals of the Year 2014.
The 24 unit school will cater for 6,000 students in Attika, the region in Greece that encompasses Athens. According to World Finance, is the first ever PPP to utilise the European Commission-developed initiative the Joint European Support for Sustainable Investment in City Areas (JESSICA), which supports sustainable urban development and regeneration in cooperation with the European Investment Bank and Council of Europe Development Bank.
The deal itself consists of two PPP projects with a combined budget of €110 million, OSK 14 and OSK 10. Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) advised UniCredit Bank AG as the Account bank on OSK 14, providing both Greek and English law advice from the firm’s Athens office.
The WFW team was led by Athens Project & Structured Finance partner Nikolaos Kostikas, with associates Christoforos Bisbikos, Konstantina Siozou and Eirini Portokalaki.
