25 April 2016

International law firm Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW“) has advised Städtisches Klinikum München, Munich’s Municipal Hospital, on the sale of its blood donor service (Blutspendedienst München) to the blood donor services of the Bavarian Red Cross (Blutspendedienst des Bayerischen Roten Kreuzes GmbH – “BSD-BRK”). Together with the sale, a long-term supply contract was agreed with BSD-BRK.

The parties had already signed the transaction documents in December 2015 after approval by the Munich city council and the supervisory board of BSD-BRK. After clearance by the German competition authorities, the transaction closed in April 2016.

The WFW team was led by Munich partner Dr Simon Preisenberger (M&A, Private Equity), assisted by associates Joachim Heinemann and Cordula Schröter (both M&A, Private Equity/Munich). Munich-based partner Anne Kleffmann advised on the employment law aspects of the transaction, and Hamburg-based partner Dr Christine Bader on regulatory issues.

Lutz Abel advised Städtisches Klinikum München on the procurement law aspects of the transaction. BSD-BRK was advised by Hengeler Mueller (corporate), Beiten Burkhardt (employment) and Bird & Bird (regulatory).
