21 January 2016

International law firm Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) is delighted to have been recognised as “Law Firm of the Year – Renewables” by leading Italian legal news provider legalcommunity at their “2016 Energy Awards” held in Milan on 18 January 2016. Rome partner Pierpaolo Mastromarini also won the highly prestigious “Lawyer of the Year – Rising Star” award.

legalcommunity granted WFW the award in recognition of the firm’s excellent performance and reputation in the Italian legal market, as confirmed by the overwhelming positive feedback received during the awards process, and its genuine expertise across the whole spectrum of energy matters, most particularly for renewables. The firm’s international capability in the renewables sector was also highlighted.

Pierpaolo was singled out as Italy’s rising star for energy law courtesy of his “outstanding problem-solving attitude” and prompt response to any and all client queries, as well as the significant boost his arrival at WFW represented for the firm’s Italian project finance capabilities.

Eugenio Tranchino, WFW Italy’s Managing Partner commented: “We’re honoured that WFW’s unique experience, expertise and international capability in the energy sector, and for renewables specifically, was recognised by legalcommunity. I’m also naturally delighted that Pierpaolo’s expertise and major contribution to WFW’s project finance capabilities have been recognised – he is an energy lawyer of rare talent.”

WFW’s acknowledged expertise in the renewable energy sector is also demonstrated by the firm’s short-listing, announced on 19 January, for “European energy, infrastructure and projects deal of the year” at The Lawyer’7th annual Lawyer European Awards to be held in London on 9-10 March 2016. The firm was nominated for its successful role advising a consortium of international banks on the financing of the 400 MW “Veja Mate” offshore wind farm in the German North Sea. The deal ranked third in Bloomberg’s Top Ten Asset Finance Deals by total debt in their 2015 Clean Energy & Energy Smart Technologies League Tables published on 14 January 2016. WFW ranked 8 overall in the Q4 2015 Top 20 Asset Finance Legal Advisers in the same league tables – up from 10 in Q3.
