Asian Legal Business Malaysia Awards 2016 – WFWAP short-listed for three awards

16 March 2016

Watson Farley & Williams Asia Practice (“WFWAP”) is pleased to announce that it has been shortlisted in the following categories at the Asian Legal Business Malaysia Awards 2016:

  • International Law Firm of the Year
  • Debt Market Deal of the Year – for three deals separately: ECA-Backed Financing for Petrobras, Yinson’s FPSO Project in Offshore Cape Three Points and SapuraKencana’s Sukuk Murabahah Programme
  • Islamic Finance Deal of the Year – for SapuraKencana’s Sukuk Murabahah Programme

Singapore partner Andrew Nimmo led on all of the shortlisted deals. Senior associates Lizzie Roe, Vijay Jeyaratnam and Shawn Er assisted on the three transactions respectively.

The black-tie gala dinner and awards ceremony will be taking place on Thursday, 7 April 2016 at the InterContinental hotel in Kuala Lumpur and will bring together in-house teams and law firms doing business in Malaysia to celebrate excellence in the legal sector. The awards are described as aiming “to recognise and reward the outstanding performance of private practitioners and in-house teams that have significantly contributed to the ever-evolving legal landscape of the country”.

These nominations acknowledge the firm’s strong reputation in the Malaysian market and continues on the firm’s success both last year and the year before, where, in 2015, WFWAP won two ALB Malaysia awards: Debt Market Deal of the Year and Malaysia Deal of the Year for SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad’s landmark RM16.5 billion (approximately US$5.5 billion) multi-currency group financing facility. In 2014, WFWAP won Deal of the Year at the 2014 Lloyd’s List Asia Awards for its work advising on another Malaysian deal, SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad’s landmark debt financing and equity placement for the US$2.9 billion acquisition of Seadrill’s Tender Rigs business.
