Summary

Simon Kavanagh is a partner in the International Finance Group based in London.  He qualified as an English lawyer in 1987 and joined Watson, Farley & Williams as a partner in 1997.  Simon specialises in financing and project transactions, with particular emphasis on the logistics, shipping and renewables sector, and has wide experience of many types of financing.  He has been involved in a broad range of structured financings including securitisations, numerous UK and cross-border tax leases and project financings relating to, among other things, shipbuilding receivables, container receivables, containers, container vessels, cruise vessels and other types of vessels, satellites, windfarms and landfill gas plants.
 
Recent Experience

  • Advising an Australian power developer on the restructuring of its UK power facilities
  • Advising a leading UK private equity house on the acquisition and leveraged financing of a portfolio of approximately 130 MW of existing and 900 MW of development onshore wind and hydroelectric assets in Greece  
  • Advising Energy Developments Limited, an Australian power developer, on the £60m refinancing of their UK landfill gas portfolio  
  • Advising Plambeck Neue Energien AG on a €102 million bond financing for eight wind farms (owned by separate partnerships) totalling 140 MW with investment grade rating (AAA) from Moody’s and Standard & Poors.  The bond refinanced the existing project finance debt  
  • Advising the lessees on UK tonnage tax and cross border leases
  • Advising a major liner company on the restructuring of approximately 20 financings
